Members of the Hale family met together Saturday, Feb.24, 2007 to honor our ancestors. A general meeting was held in which our current president, Lee Hale, and our past president, David S. Hale, spoke. Family members had an opportunity to meet and discuss various aspects of our family history, as well as “catch up” on current family events. We hope those who were not able to attend in Logan took an opportunity to rejoice and honor our kindred dead wherever you happened to be!

Following is a brief summary of the most recent HFO Executive Board Meeting minutes, as far as they may interest the general body of the Hale Family Organization.

We are starting to compile a list of external web links which may be used to help research genealogy and family history to add to our existing records or to provide source documentation for those that we already have. Please leave a comment if you find any others with important resources.

At our last board meeting (Jan. 21, 2007), HFO board members chose to adopt a mission statement to guide us in our work. We based the wording and goals directly on documents which the original board members created.

We are currently searching for several individuals to help with the work within our Hale Family Organization. With your talents, skills, and just a few hours a month, we could do so much more! To see a list of opportunities, go to the discussion forum and look in the “announcements” category. If you see anyting that interests you, or if you have another idea where you could be of assistance, then let us know!

Here you will find the text of the traditional story of the “Lighting of the Logan Temple” as it was included in a churchwide genealogical training manual. “For a Wise Purpose” (Lesson 43), Birthright Blessings, Genealogical Training Class, Sunday School lessons for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, published by the Deseret Sunday School Union Board, 1942, pp. 129-31.

After investigating many options, we have decided to host our genealogy data using an open source application, PhpGedView. Because this application is very interactive, it is easy to find the data you are looking for right on our web site. Authorized family members who are doing research on particular lines don’t have to worry about merging their changes with the master database. This application allows you to make changes directly into the master source after a review by other family researchers. Of course there is security to ensure that the privacy of living individuals is retained.

Take a look at the Family History Research section of our site and see what this has to offer! Family members who would like to see how they fit in personally to the rest of the family may request an account by clicking on the “login” link at the top of the Family History page. Be sure to indicate how you believe you are related in the comments section. (Be default you can only see the details of living individuals in this database for whom you indicate that you are closely related)

If your Hale family group would like to visit The Museum of Church History and Art (west of Temple Square in Salt Lake City) and have a guided tour of
artifacts significant in the life of Jonathan H. Hale–possibly including
the JHH sword and the E.B. Grandin press that printed Jonathan’s first edition Book of Mormon–contact David and Christine Hale (docents at the Museum on Monday evenings).

Email: Christine or call 801-451-9100 for an appointment.

The Hale Family Organization (a registered non-profit organization) is offering familiy-related items to the public. All proceeds of these items and other donations go towards additional genealogical research. (We are still accepting special donations for the Jonathan / Olive memorial marker in Winter Quarters, Iowa.)
